This section documents the work at the Center for Black Music Research, where it became clear that the discussion around African-American vocalities had to include practices and performances from artists, scholars, and local activists. In other words, the research had to create a space where several black voices could meet, express, and dialogue. Two incredible symposia (titled “Black Vocality. Cultural Memory, Identities, and Practices of African-American Vocal Styles”) were organized at Columbia College Chicago.

Here you can find rich documentation of that polyphonic space, as well as works that expand on that dialogue.
