Over the course of this three-day workshop, participants continued to engage in collective reflection on the ideas that had been shared during the previous meeting, leading to the creation of new writings and music compositions.

Conversations and Interviews within the music workshop (January 2023)

music workshop at liceo "melissa bassi" (March 2023)

voci fuori campo, curated by marie moïse

Voci fuori campo is a reverberation from the margin. The assumption is that the first conquest for a human being is that her voice gets centered. The deafening silence absorbed our presence, and this is what made the sonic vibration an organic practice. Two women, both children of the diaspora, question themselves and give life to gesture connected to their voices and bodies.

The workshops are the result of different research and experiences, that go further and interrogate – starting from self-interrogation – the vibrations and energies that have been inherited from the diasporic experience.

FIRST ACT – 1st APRIL
Impercettibili
curated by Wissal Houbabi

…sounds that emerge from recollections that were made flesh through time. If it is true that we are more paper than flesh, it is in the orality that we are free again and we can rebuild our voice. The workshop Impercettibili centers the voice, investigates the meaning of the “mother tongue” and, tries to flush out the “father tongue”. Mother tongue and father tongue are power hierarchies. They offer a lens through which we can challenge linguistics the way feminism challenged the productive and reproductive work: what does it mean to be relegated to a domestic space? What does it mean to lack institutional acknowledgement? To have your mother tongue often means both living in agony and guarding the most precious, ancient memories that are full of life. Starting from our flesh, from our most important memories, we try to let our collective voice resonate, so that we can recognize that this voice can live only in orality, outside the control of the father, but relies on our collective contributions.

SECOND ACT – 2nd APRIL
Memorie da sottopelle. Laboratorio di coreo/grafie decoloniali
curated by Marie Moïse, from an idea of Marie Moïse e Mackda Ghebremariam Tesfau’

The past writes our bodies. With movement in the present, words surface on the skin, tracing lines of flight toward the horizon of change. In a journey that embroiders on bodies as well as on written pages, the workshop proposes a collective practice of theoretical and performative reworking of the embodied experience of relationships of domination and their colonial nature. Through the words of racialized authors such as Capovolte, Grada Kilomba, Djamila Ribeiro, Rahma Nur, Carla Akotirene, and the broad interwoven lineage of thinkers and poets who are linked to them, words and concepts of decolonial feminism will be transformed into verses, movements. The feminist power – between liberation, healing, and the re-articulation of defense mechanisms – will take the form of a new collective consciousness.
